Build a TH350 gearbox

I am building a new gearbox for next year, this is a worn out clutch compared to a new one

These are the clutch apply pistons

This is the empty case

im having to take mine out.piddling oil out all over the place. .my motors gearbox is tiny compared to urs.

As long as thats the only thing that's tiny compared to buick's

Collect all the parts you need



Fit seals on low & reverse piston and install




Install springs with home made compressor and fit retaining ring



fit bearing and output shaft




Then install this thingy with planet gears



Soak clutches in fluid before fitting





dont forget this little spring before installing the roller clutch




Fit retaining ring



Fit new bushes in the sun gear

How you doing with the box rebuild altogether yet, can you bench test in any way or do you have to install to get result of labours

I am getting there, just found the pump gears have ploughed a furrow into the pump cover
lucky I have a spare one

By no means is every step pictured! here is piston with new seals going into direct drum




If you rollers fall out like this, sling it out



forgot the ring gear & reaction carrier



Place the 2 rebuilt clutches together into case




dont miss the band



Install intermediate clutch


Rebuild pump and torque bolts, fit rings, I use a ring expander




Once it is all in, check end play, this one is 25 thou after some shim juggleing



Now for the valve body



look at the groove worn in the pump, scrap

Getting there, really good pics, and you've cleaned your nails this time, was it to much end float caused the grooving, worn packs, lack of oil pressure or just heavy use?, I see the new band going in is a heavy duty one hopefully will help the quarter time?

Valve body in bits, ready for cleaning , inspection etc



All re assembled and ready to go back in

Fit tail extension and paint





If the paint peels off Jake, I hold you responsible

You should not have used Red Oxide before Hammerite - it will just peel off - Nitromores is the answer
